Humanitarian Shipment to Ukraine

“Fuel, cash and medical supplies are running low in parts of Ukraine after Russia’s invasion, which could drive up to 5 million people to flee abroad,” U.N. aid agencies said. Millions of Ukrainians are fleeing their homes since Russia launched its assault, while thousands have already crossed the borders to the neighboring countries including Romania, Moldova, and Poland.

In less than a month into the conflict, schools, hospitals, homes and many essential infrastructure (including gas, electricity and water lines) have been destroyed by the Russian attacks. Such deterioration is having its ramification across many sectors in the state. Moreover, families are sheltering underground, in very cold weather, cut off from basic services. Hospitals and maternity wards have moved their patients to basements. Others are packed in trains which are heading to the west in order to find safety.  In addition, people, especially children are suffering from psychological stressors due to separation, trauma, and separation.

In such an unfortunate and unexpected crisis, The ROS is working around the clock to support the Ukrainian families.  Therefore, we are mobilizing 30 pallets of lifesaving supplies to the war-zone area in Ukraine. This first batch of the emergency relief air shipment is to leave our warehouse on Wednesday, 16th of March, 2022.

The ROS renews its call for immediate donations to Ukraine in order to ensure life-saving, life-sustaining and life-enriching aid to people in need.  Your donations will prevent the country from spiraling deeper into a crisis that could impact millions of people around the world.

Educational Center in Syria

Educational Center in Syria

After many years of war and crisis in Syria, many children remain deprived of education.  The education system is fragmented, underfunded, overstretched, and unable to provide sustained services to children in Syria.

According to the UNICEF, there are over 2.4 million children out of schools, nearly 40% are girls. This number has likely increased in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. One in three schools in Syria are damaged, destroyed and being used for military purposes. As for the children who were able to attend schools, they often learn in overcrowded classrooms, and buildings with inappropriate infrastructure. Moreover, the UN is able to confirm nearly 700 attacks on education facilities and personnel in Syria since the verification of grave violations against children began.

While the war continues and the education remains the beacon for millions of children, the Roads of Success (ROS) interfered to protect and preserve education in Syria. It is the mission of  ROS to provide children their basic human right to receive education. Therefore, the ROS is thrilled to announce the opening of a pioneer educational center in partnership with its local ministry partners in the Governorate of AL-Suwaida, Syria. This step creates a pathway for children to return to learning, supporting them to successfully return to classrooms, and recive learning.

Despite operating in unbelievably dangerous and difficult conditions, the ROS believes that it is fundamental to engage in rebuilding the Syrian society and economy through providing generations a decent education. This does more than just keep children in schools, yet it works towards a better tomorrow for all Syria.

ROS Humanitarian work in Northern Iraq

ROS Humanitarian work in Northern Iraq

It was impossible for the Road of Success (ROS) team to stare transfixed to the cry of the Iraqi’s and the displaced people. Over the past years, the number of the forcibly displaced people has been doubled, and people flee in thousands due to conflicts, repression, persecution, destitution, and natural disasters. However the majority are Internally Displaced People (IDPSs).

Such crisis jeopardizes the well-being and health of thousand lives in Northern Iraq. Therefore, we provided medical assistance to ease the suffering and save lives in their treacherous journeys. Our medical team is made up of many professional health consultants, guided by medical principals and ethics.

In Northern Iraq, we treat patients suffering from a wide array of disease and health needs. So far, we were able to :

  • Treat over 62 patients at our clinic in Northern Iraq
  • Provide comprehensive medical services to 15 women who were examined by our gynecologists, and all necessary medication and vitamins were given.
  • Plan to provide weekly medical services to an average of 350 young men and women.
  • Provide psychological sessions to the displaced people in the Kurdistan region in Northern Iraq.
  • Provide medical assistance to women in  the women’s clinic and the family doctor’s clinic.
  • Distribute free medicines to 49 displaced and refugee patients.

Pray for Lebanon!

In the last few days, the situation in Lebanon has been spiraling out of control towards escalating violence that is threatening to lead to civil war. It is an agony to see the utter expressions of sorrow and pain, crying, and beating chests.

The unprecedented crisis is due to the compound effects of Beirut blast, economic collapse, and COVID-19 pandemic. This is alongside political corruption and mismanagement crisis response. Such crisis occurs on a background of turbulent history and complex regional geopolitical context including the Syrian refugee crisis, and ongoing influence of foreign actors.

The Road of Success can hear the screaming voices of the grieving families and stunned victims with the screeching sirens of ambulances. We are, also, told about the smell of the smoking ruins.  We can also see the chaos of divisions, powerlessness of leaders, corruption, and the surge of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Please pray for Lebanon, pray for:

  • A mother who suffers the lack of food and shelter
  • A mother who can’t afford medication for her children’s treatment
  • An intervention to end the shedding of innocent blood
  • A extinguishing the pain from the hearts who mourn the death of loved ones
  • Gifts of compassion and peace upon Lebanon and its people
  • Intervention to rekindle the light of hope in a land plagued by sever economic and political crisis

Impact of Wars of Children

“All wars, whether just or unjust, disastrous or victorious, are waged against the child.” Eglantyne Jebb

Impact of Wars of Children: Today, the conflicts in the Middle East have resulted in enormous devastation and loss of life. Those who fight to survive have been left to deal with very difficult problems and circumstances.  Unfortunately, in such hardships and situations, children are those who suffer the most. They got exposed to abduction, abandonment, displacement, separation from loved ones, forced soldiering, poverty, health problems, and hunger.  These experiences take a heavy toll on children’s relationships with their families and communities.

According to the UNICEF, the United Nations has verified more than 170,000 grave violations against children in conflict areas. In 2018, the UN verified more than 24,000 grave violations against children, including maiming, killing, sexual violence, abductions, denial of humanitarian access, child recruitment and attacks on schools and hospitals. Children may lose their sight, limbs, or cognitive capacity.  In addition, many children are sexually exploited. Rape is used as a tactic of war against children in order to torture and obtain information. Such disruptions and losses in lives lead to high rates of anxiety and depression.

Children in war-torn areas are the most vulnerable to be used and recruited in armed conflicts. They are not only used as fighters, but also as porters, guards, cooks and messengers. According to the UNICEF, between 2005 and 2020, more than 93,000 children were recruited and used by parties to conflict. Those children are deprived from nutrition and healthy living conditions, and are subjected to substance use.

Such  adverse effects of destruction of health systems and social infrastructure, displacement, and environmental damage, compromise children’s access to basic necessities, such as food, health care, and education.
